Parenting can bring experiences of wonder, along with wondering about almost everything you are doing.

At times, parents may experience overwhelming feelings of frustration or uncertainty.

There may  be a recurring conflict, or issue within the family that persists despite time or accommodations.

Sometimes parents just have lots of questions about parenting that they would like professional insight on.

It can be challenging to muster the energy and time to address these difficulties, particularly considering the increasing demands of modern parenting. It can be easier to wait and see if things improve by themselves and sometimes they do. However sometimes the issues disguise themselves and show up in other ways, or re-appear during life transitions.

Through my work with parents I see how valuable investing in professional support can be.  My experience with parents has demonstrated that a significant reduction in stress within the family can be achieved when worked through reflectively.

My approach is not to be the parenting expert - I believe you are the expert of your child - and together we can identify the core issues as well as the more hidden ones to help support you towards improved parenting experiences.

Common challenges include:

  • Managing your child’s behaviours

  • Confusion about what is going on for your child

  • Confidence in parenting style

  • Co-parenting

  • Concerns about bonding with growing children

  • Divorce or separation

  • Sibling struggles

  • Communication breakdowns

  • Neurodiversity

I provide a supportive, non-judgemental, and confidential environment where parents can explore their concerns and develop practical strategies. Collaborating with someone with professional insight can provide immense relief to many parents. I am

I am flexible and accommodating in terms of our working arrangement, including in-person, hybrid, or online sessions.

.

How It Works:

PHONE CALL: We would begin with a brief conversation 10-15 minutes, no fee.

CONSULTATION: If I think I can support you we would have a parent consultation. This lasts 1 hour (£65)

BLOCK of 4-6: If you would like more we would schedule in some sessions. Sessions are 1 hour (£60)

AD-HOC: At the end of each block we review together.  Sometimes parents need the space and time to practice before revisiting.

Many parents I work with continue to book session as and when they need. I work in a tailor-made way to the individual parent, parents or caregiver.

ABOUT PSYCHOTHERAPY

Common Questions:

Will therapy help?

What type of therapy is best?

How long will it take?

These are common questions people want answers to when considering therapy. Sometimes people carry concerns about being judged or worry about labels for their child. This is understandable and why I seek to answer your questions in a brief phone call or an initial 1 hour consultation.

Common reasons for seeking therapy:

  • Anxiety

  • Neurodiversity (including ASC, ADHD)

  • Identity

  • Depression

  • Social or separation anxiety

  • Aggression

  • Self-harming behaviours

  • Sleeping problems

  • Chronic illness

  • Substance misuse

  • Bullying

  • Stealing and lying

  • Procrastination

  • Family conflict

  • Parenting styles

  • Bereavement

  • Separation & divorce

Types of Therapy:

There are many different types of therapy. Sometimes a therapist will use one type of 'modality' mostly they use more than one.

I choose what is called an 'integrative' approach because this gives me greater flexibility to shape the therapy around the individual needs. More than one model helps me understand my clients struggles from a variety of viewpoints.

The models which underpin my approach are attachment theory which examines how early attachment experiences can influence later relationships and psychodynamic which pays attention to unconscious processes. I also draw on neurobiology which considers how the mind-body connection is not a separate entity.

My training and understanding of child development also lies at the heart of how I can support children and young people. These approaches are all evidence based and work well together to build on individual strengths.

How to know what qualifications and registrations mean?

In the UK we have a number of regulatory bodies which are approved of by the Professional Standards Commitee. The one I am registered with is BACP.
