Windows into the world of a child can sometimes seem closed, but mostly they are wide open we just need to know how to look.
Children’s natural language is play and the world of play can be the bridge between the unconscious and the conscious.
Sometime's children communicate their struggles through behaviour that might seem puzzling or hard to make sense of. Parents and family may find their support is not quite helping enough. This can be when professional insight can be useful.

Common reasons children may come to therapy with me are:
-
Worries
-
Aggression
-
Neurodiversity
-
Bereavement
-
School struggles
-
Family transitions

My skills as a child psychotherapist enable me to meet a child where they are and understand what might be going on for them. Unlike adults who often rely on words to communicate, children’s main communication is through symbolic play. Understanding the meanings in the play and behaviours is key to how I work. Through this I can help the child explore their experiences and what meanings the child has attached to those experiences.

I work in an age appropriate way, younger children may rely on different ways of communicating to older ones. I use a wide range of creative media such as drawing, cards, puppetry, drama and sand tray to help my clients feel safe and work through their difficulties. Through this children can improve their relationships and how they are being in the world.

I like to work collaboratively with parents and help build on how the world around the child can support them. I can discuss this at our first consultation.

How It Works:
PHONE CALL. We would begin with a brief conversation 10-15 minutes, no fee.
MEETING. If I think I can work with your child and you like my approach, we would book in 1 session to see if they like therapy and want to meet me again. The session lasts 50 minutes (£60)
BLOCK OF 6 SESSIONS. If after the first meeting we decide to continue, you can book in a block of weekly sessions. This is to give us time to explore the core issues and get to know each other. It also helps me consider what might be the best approach. After this we review together. Then book in another block if wish. The sessions last 50 minutes (£60 ).

CONFIDENTIALITY. A key part of therapy for teenagers is confidentiality. This helps them with boundaries and to provide them with the space and time to work through whatever they bring. This can sometimes be understandably challenging for parents but I will discuss this with both you and your teenager. I always seek to work collaboratively with parents and I will hold the confidentiality unless I have a safeguarding concern.
